Exciva Secures EUR 51 Million to Advance Alzheimer's Therapy
Stockholm-based biotech company Exciva has raised EUR 51 million in a Series B funding round to advance its novel therapeutic approach for treating agitation in Alzheimer's disease. The round was co-led by EQT Life Sciences and Gimv, with participation from Fountain Healthcare Partners, LifeArc, Carma Fund, Modi Ventures, and returning investors Andera Partners and LBBW.
The investment will support the company's lead program, Deraphan, which is preparing to enter a pivotal Phase 2/3 clinical trial known as the SERENADA study. EQT Life Sciences, investing from its dedicated Dementia Fund, signaled strong confidence in Exciva's approach to addressing a significant unmet medical need in neurodegenerative care.
Exciva's lead candidate combines a novel chemical entity (EXV-801) with dextromethorphan, targeting both NMDA and serotonin pathways to potentially mitigate agitation symptoms in Alzheimer's patients. The upcoming multinational trial, planned across the EU, US, and Canada, will enroll 300 patients and is expected to commence in Q1 2026. The company's previous funding rounds and strategic investor base underscore growing interest in innovative neurological therapeutic strategies.
