France-based Cyllene Therapeutics, formerly known as EG 427, has closed a EUR 33 million (USD 38 million) Series C financing round to advance clinical development of EG110A, its lead non-replicating herpes simplex virus-based genetic medicine for neurogenic bladder disease, and to expand its broader HERMES platform pipeline. The funding coincides with the company's formal rebrand from EG 427, signaling its transition toward late-stage clinical operations with a global footprint.
The round was co-led by new investors GordonMD Global Investments LP and M Ventures, the strategic corporate venture capital arm of Merck. Existing investors Andera Partners, Bpifrance Investissement through its InnoBio 3 Fund, and Lamond Ventures also participated. The company said proceeds will fund continued clinical development of EG110A across neuro-urology indications, beginning with neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO), and support expansion of its HERMES non-replicating HSV-1 vector platform into additional therapeutic areas including pain and migraine.
The Series C follows a EUR 27 million Series B closed in February 2025, which was co-led by Andera Partners and Bpifrance and funded the initiation of the Phase Ib/IIa clinical study of EG110A in the US. The participation of both Andera Partners and Bpifrance in the current round reflects continued investor confidence in the program's trajectory.
EG110A is a non-replicating HSV-1 vector designed to selectively silence type C sensory neurons responsible for bladder overactivity while preserving normal voiding function. NDO, the primary target indication, affects an estimated 70%-84% of patients living with spinal cord injury and approximately 2 million patients across major markets globally. The first patient was dosed in the Phase Ib/IIa study in February 2025, marking the first-in-human application of non-replicative herpes-based vectors in neuro-urology. Cyllene plans to initiate a Phase IIb/III study with EG110A in 2027 while also intending to expand the molecule's evaluation to overactive bladder, a larger commercial indication.
