Sophia Genetics (Nasdaq: SOPH) and AstraZeneca have expanded their precision oncology partnership into a multi-year companion diagnostics collaboration covering both solid tumors and hematological malignancies, broadening a relationship that has steadily grown since 2024. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Both programs will progress through the full development-to-launch continuum — from clinical trial assay development through regulatory submission and global deployment via Sophia Genetics' SOPHiA DDM platform.
The agreement builds on a partnership established in 2024 that has progressively expanded from deployment of MSK-ACCESS liquid biopsy testing to broader precision oncology initiatives across multiple tumor types. An expansion focused on breast and prostate cancer detection in September 2025.
Unlike many companion diagnostic programs built around centralized reference laboratories, the solid tumor assay is intended for decentralized deployment through hospital laboratories using Sophia's SOPHiA DDM platform, potentially broadening patient access in regions with limited centralized testing infrastructure.
The hematological oncology program also extends Sophia's companion diagnostics footprint beyond the solid tumor setting, where most commercial liquid biopsy CDx development has been concentrated. The agreement also reflects AstraZeneca's continued strategy of building a multi-partner companion diagnostics ecosystem rather than relying on a single diagnostics provider, with Sophia joining Foundation Medicine, Guardant Health and other collaborators supporting different oncology programs.
AstraZeneca runs CDx partnerships with multiple diagnostic companies simultaneously, including Foundation Medicine and Guardant Health, and has previously collaborated with Sophia Genetics on ovarian cancer testing in Spain. The August 2026 agreement does not represent an exclusive relationship.
For Sophia Genetics, the deal adds to a series of pharma partnerships accumulated over the past year. In September 2025, the company entered a liquid biopsy CDx collaboration with Myriad Genetics (Nasdaq: MYGN) to develop a CDx offering for pharmaceutical partners. The company also raised USD 57.5 million in a public equity offering in June 2026, closing with full exercise of the underwriters' option to purchase additional shares.
