A Paris-based neuroscience company is gaining access to one of the UK’s leading academic drug discovery platforms, focused on neuroinflammation as a tractable target for first-in-class therapeutic development. AndzonBio2, a private neuroscience company headquartered in Paris, announced agreements with the ALBORADA Drug Discovery Institute (ADDI) at the University of Cambridge and Cambridge Enterprise to advance a first-in-class neuroinflammation therapeutic program targeting conditions including Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and other central nervous system disorders.
Under the structure, Cambridge Enterprise grants AndzonBio2 an exclusive option to license the intellectual property generated through the collaboration, with the program intended to progress toward candidate nomination and eventual clinical testing. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The science behind the neuroinflammation drug discovery program
Neuroinflammation — the activation of immune and inflammatory pathways within the central nervous system — has emerged as a shared biological driver across multiple neurodegenerative and neurological conditions. While the mechanistic role of neuroinflammation in disease progression has been recognized for some time, therapeutic programs specifically designed to modulate neuroinflammatory pathways have remained limited, and no disease-modifying treatments have achieved broad clinical adoption across this disease spectrum.
The program at the center of the AndzonBio2 Cambridge collaboration is described as novel and designed to modulate key pathways involved in neuroinflammatory processes. No specific molecular target, compound code, or therapeutic modality has been publicly disclosed, consistent with the early discovery stage of the program. The collaboration is structured around combining ADDI’s drug discovery platform and University of Cambridge neuroscience capabilities with AndzonBio2’s translational drug development expertise, with the stated goal of progressing toward a formal candidate nomination.
