Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) has licensed San Francisco-based Chai Discovery's generative AI platform — including early access to Chai-3, a previously undisclosed next-generation antibody design model — in a deal that places one of the youngest and most technically ambitious companies in AI drug discovery directly inside Pfizer's research infrastructure. Founded in 2024 and backed by Oak HC/FT, General Catalyst, OpenAI, Thrive Capital, Menlo Ventures, and Dimension, Chai Discovery has moved from founding to major pharma partnership in under two years. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Under the agreement, Pfizer gains deployment rights to Chai's AI platform and will receive a custom model trained on Pfizer's proprietary data and tailored to its internal workflows. Pfizer is described as among the first pharmaceutical partners to access Chai-3.

Chai Discovery's platform is a multimodal generative AI system designed to predict and generate 3D molecular structures across proteins, antibodies, nucleic acids, and small molecules, enabling it to model complex molecular interactions within a single inference pass. Built on a diffusion-based architecture, the platform combines structural prediction with de novo molecular generation and can operate without multiple sequence alignments, enabling faster work on novel targets.
