Mediar Therapeutics Secures USD 76 Million to Advance Anti-Fibrotic Pipeline

Boston-based Mediar Therapeutics has closed an oversubscribed Series B financing round of USD 76 million, bolstering its development of novel anti-fibrotic therapies targeting systemic sclerosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and chronic kidney disease. The company's lead pipeline consists of three monoclonal antibodies designed to interrupt fibrotic processes across multiple organ systems.

The financing round was led by Amplitude Ventures and ICG, with participation from Longwood Fund, Asahi Kasei Pharma Ventures, Alexandria Real Estate Trust, and existing Series A investors. The company said it will use the proceeds to advance clinical trials for its lead candidates MTX-474 and MTX-463, currently in Phase 2 development, and prepare MTX-439 for Phase 1 studies.

Mediar is currently conducting the EncompaSSc Phase 2a trial for MTX-474 in systemic sclerosis and the WISPer trial for MTX-463 in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The company's approach focuses on targeting myofibroblast biology, with primary endpoints measuring changes in skin score and lung function. MTX-439, targeting chronic kidney disease-associated fibrosis, is slated to enter Phase 1 trials in 2026. This financing follows the company's initial Series A round and represents a significant milestone in its efforts to develop precision anti-fibrotic therapeutics.
