Thyora Therapeutics launches with Moffitt covalent chemistry platform

Thyora Therapeutics emerged from stealth with an exclusive worldwide license to covalent chemistry technology developed at Moffitt Cancer Center, launching with a discovery platform the company says is designed to improve the precision of covalent medicines. Financial terms of the license and any financing backing the company were not disclosed.

The launch coincides with publication of the underlying research in Science. Thyora said its platform combines a proprietary strain-release bicyclobutane (BCB) covalent warhead with Covalogic, an AI-enabled chemoproteomics platform that identifies covalent binding sites across the proteome.

Covalent drugs form irreversible bonds with target proteins, offering durable target engagement but often facing challenges around selectivity. According to Thyora, its BCB chemistry demonstrated high cysteine selectivity, potent target engagement and favorable pharmacological properties in preclinical studies.

The company plans to initially focus on oncology, although it has not disclosed specific targets, lead candidates or development programs.

Thyora was co-founded by Moffitt researchers Justin M. Lopchuk, Andrii Monastyrskyi and Derek Duckett, who developed the underlying technology, together with chief executive officer T.J. Langer. As part of its launch, the company secured an exclusive worldwide license covering the BCB chemistry, Covalogic platform and related intellectual property from Moffitt.

The company said its integrated chemistry, chemoproteomics and functional genomics platform is intended to enable the discovery of covalent medicines against difficult-to-drug targets. No development timelines or additional corporate details were disclosed.
