London-based Basecamp Research has raised USD 140 million in an oversubscribed Series C round led by S32, with proceeds directed toward training a new generation of its EDEN biological foundation models and advancing a pipeline of AI-designed therapeutics toward clinical development. The round brings total disclosed funding to approximately USD 225 million, following a USD 20 million Series A in December 2022 and a USD 60 million Series B in October 2024.
Participating investors include Anthropic's Anthology Fund, NVIDIA, The Rockefeller Foundation, King Philanthropies, the NATO Innovation Fund, Catalio Capital Management, True Ventures, Singular, Redalpine, European Tech Collective, Firebrand River Capital, Inception Fund, PostScriptum, and Sovereign AI, alongside individual investors including André Hoffmann, Vice-Chairman of Roche.
The company's platform pairs EDEN — trained on the Trillion Gene Atlas, a proprietary genomic dataset collected through partnerships in more than 30 countries — with large serine recombinases that insert long DNA sequences into the genome without double-strand breaks. The Trillion Gene Atlas, launched earlier this year, aims to expand known evolutionary genetic diversity 100-fold by collecting genomic data from more than 100 million species globally and underpins the next generation of EDEN models.
The pipeline comprises six preclinical programs, with lead programs targeting blood cancer and an undisclosed autoimmune disease via in vivo chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy — an approach the company said aims to circumvent the ex vivo manufacturing process that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars per patient under conventional methods. Additional programs include an in vivo CAR-T program for solid tumors, a liver gene therapy for phenylketonuria, and EDEN-designed antimicrobial peptides, which the company reported demonstrated a 97% biological activity rate against target pathogens in laboratory tests.
