WuXi Biologics and Vertex Pharmaceuticals have signed a strategic licensing agreement covering an innovative trispecific T-cell Engager (TCE) targeting B-cell mediated autoimmune disease. Under the terms of the deal, Vertex will receive exclusive global rights to develop and commercialize a preclinical-stage therapeutic molecule, with WuXi Biologics positioned to receive upfront payments, potential milestone compensation, and future royalties. WuXi will also provide CDMO services in relation to Vertex’s development of TCE therapeutics.
The trispecific TCE represents an emerging class of immunotherapeutic technologies designed to provide more precise immune system modulation. While bispecific antibodies (targeting one antigen + CD3) are already in Phase I/II trials, trispecifics are designed to offer better safety (lower cytokine release) or deeper “immune resets” by targeting multiple markers on B cells and plasma cells simultaneously. Comparable assets under develpoment include CC-312 (Crescendo Biologics), a Phase I stage CD19-targeting trispecific TCE, and Kite Therapeutics’ CD19 x BCMA x CD3-targeted TCE KT501, entering Phase I study.
