VST BIO Corporation Closes Series A to Advance Stroke Antibody VB-001 Into the Clinic

VST BIO Corporation, a San Diego-headquartered biotechnology company developing therapeutics for acute ischemic stroke, has closed a Series A financing round. Coefficient Giving, a philanthropic funder focused on global health and science R&D, led the round. Total investment in the company since its founding in 2020 now stands at USD 45 million, the company said. Sessa served as Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer for Internal Medicine at Pfizer until mid-2025, where he oversaw programs from early discovery through Phase 2b. He is also Alfred Gilman Emeritus Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Yale School of Medicine. His academic research at Yale has focused on endothelial cell signaling, vascular permeability, and nitric oxide biology — areas that align with VST BIO's platform. Michael Simons, identified as a co-founder of the company, said Sessa's experience translating vascular therapeutics from basic research to clinical proof-of-concept would be relevant as the company enters its next phase.
