Ortet, a new artificial intelligence lab focused on healthcare, launched with a USD 500 million commitment from Thoreau to develop a patient-centered foundation model spanning biological, clinical, operational, and financial data.
The company said its platform is designed to move beyond single-task healthcare AI by connecting information across the patient journey and adapting the resulting models for applications including scientific discovery, clinical care, health operations, and financial administration.
The funding will support compute and data infrastructure, model training and deployment, and recruitment of research and engineering talent. Ortet said it has already secured its initial GPU cluster and plans to work with healthcare customers from launch.
US healthcare technology and investment platform Thoreau is the sole investor named in the financing and described the commitment as a founding investment. The firm is building and backing healthcare infrastructure and platforms across provider, payer, employer, life sciences, and government markets.
