Remedium Bio's obesity gene therapy platform picks up Lilly support in USD 10m Series A

Boston-based Remedium Bio, Inc. has closed a USD 10 million Series A financing round to advance its Prometheus gene therapy platform toward first-in-human clinical studies, with the round led by Lifespan Vision Ventures and backed by Eli Lilly and Company and HKX Capital.

Lifespan Vision Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on early-stage biotechnology targeting age-related diseases, led the round. Eli Lilly's participation follows a strategic research and development collaboration the two companies announced in September 2025, under which Lilly received an equity stake in Remedium alongside an upfront payment and potential milestone payments tied to gene therapies for obesity and type 2 diabetes. Harry Robb of Lifespan Vision Ventures has joined Remedium's board of directors. The financing follows earlier seed rounds totalling approximately USD 3.5 million, including a USD 2.3 million expanded seed raised in 2022 led by Sherwood Ventures, and a non-dilutive Phase I Small Business Innovation Research grant from the National Science Foundation awarded in 2023.

Remedium's Prometheus platform delivers non-integrating DNA cassettes via lipid nanoparticles to subcutaneous adipocytes, which then secrete therapeutic proteins systemically. Because adipose tissue is physiologically dispensable, dosing can be reduced or eliminated post-administration by established adipocyte-ablation techniques — a design intended to address the fixed-expression limitation of conventional gene therapies. The platform has been co-validated in preclinical studies with the laboratory of Dr. Kai Zou at the University of Massachusetts Boston.

The lead programme, RMD-1202, encodes a GLP-1 receptor agonist transgene and targets type 2 diabetes and obesity. A second programme, RMD-1101, delivers an FGF18 transgene for osteoarthritis. Both remain in preclinical development. The company said proceeds will support advancement of these programmes, continued platform expansion across cardiometabolic and other chronic disease areas, and preparation for first-in-human studies. The broader pipeline also includes undisclosed programmes in immunology, neurology, and musculoskeletal disease.
