Evotec and Plectonic combine T-cell platforms to tackle solid tumor selectivity challenge

Combining two preclinical platform technologies that each address a distinct failure mode of T-cell engager therapy in solid tumors, Evotec SE (Nasdaq: EVO) and Germany-based Plectonic Biotech have entered a research collaboration to generate preclinical proof-of-concept data combining their respective BiTco and LOGIBODY platforms. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Evotec's BiTco platform is built around a proprietary non-blocking CD2 antibody described by the company as delivering an additional costimulatory signal to T cells — enhancing their activation and persistence within the tumor microenvironment. Plectonic's LOGIBODY technology engineers DNA-protein hybrid constructs that function as molecular logic gates, requiring simultaneous binding to a predefined combination of tumor-associated antigens before T-cell engagement is triggered. The company describes this AND-gate architecture as designed to restrict T-cell activation to tumor cells co-expressing the required antigen signature, reducing activation in healthy tissue. Plectonic's foundational science originated from the Technical University of Munich and is funded by SPRIND, Germany's Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation.

The collaboration sees each party contributing its own platform rather than licensing technology to the other. No specific tumor-associated antigen targets or indication focus have been disclosed; the agreement covers solid tumors broadly, with program definition contingent on proof-of-concept outcomes.

For Evotec, the Plectonic deal is the BiTco platform's first disclosed external validation partnership. Evotec has published preclinical data on BiTco demonstrating CD2-mediated T-cell costimulation in combination with T-cell engager approaches, but no BiTco-derived candidates have entered clinical development. The collaboration follows a pattern of platform-level research alliances Evotec has pursued in parallel with a broader restructuring: the company sold its API manufacturing facility to Monacum Partners in November 2024 and closed the sale of its Just-Evotec Biologics Toulouse site to Sandoz in December 2025. Recent platform collaborations include an AI-enabled R&D alliance with Odyssey Therapeutics in autoimmune disease, announced in August 2026, and a dermatology collaboration with Almirall that reached its first preclinical development candidate nomination in May 2026.

The conditional T-cell engager space for solid tumors has attracted growing pharma interest, with approaches such as tumor masking and logic gating designed to improve selectivity and reduce off-tumor toxicity. Recent deals include AbbVie’s collaboration with Xilio Therapeutics and Bristol Myers Squibb’s licensing agreement with Janux Therapeutics. The Evotec-Plectonic collaboration is earlier-stage, focusing on preclinical proof-of-concept work rather than a defined development program.
